Olympia High School has a large selection of Advanced Placement courses. These classes are designed to push students academically with college-level material. They also help prepare everyone for higher education and make stronger college students in the future. The options go from history and science to art, math, and English. Students get to explore their interests in these fields. They might even earn some college credit along the way if they score above a three on the final exam.
When it comes to social studies, there are options like AP United States History, which folks call APUSH. Then, AP World History and AP Human Geography round things out. All of them call for solid reading and writing abilities as well as strong study skills. Still, they pay off if you keep your head in the game. Bryce St. Croix is taking APUSH right now. “The class is really tough. However, it draws you in and does a great deal for your future in college,” he stated.
For students who are more interested in science, AP Environmental Science or AP Biology are popular picks. They dive into actual issues like ecosystems and how to keep things sustainable. Genetics comes up, too, all through hands-on labs and research projects. Ivan Chavez is in AP Environmental Science. ”The class feels fun and keeps you hooked,” he explained. Although college-level classes are a whole other measure of academic challenge, he enjoys it a lot and has zero second thoughts about being in the class.
If you are more of an explorer, AP Seminar was designed with you in mind. This class builds your research and presentation skills. Another perk of this class is that it is a prerequisite of AP Research, successful passing of which can lead you to earning the Capstone Diploma. This achievement is not only an amazing addition to one’s college resume, but also a path to a Bright Futures scholarship. Arts fans have plenty of options, too. AP Art History, AP Music Theory, or the AP Studio Art let people express themselves creatively. English has AP Language and Composition plus AP Literature and Composition. AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Statistics cover math. All of which are great for anyone who likes tackling problems and breaking them down.
The multi-faceted and highly rigorous AP course work available at Olympia High lets students test their limits. It builds solid study habits that stick with them and set our Titans up for success in college. With so many options available, anyone can spot a class that fires them up.
