Veterans Day is an important event that our school takes time to recognize each year. This day is meant to honor the men and women who served in the United States military. While the whole school participates, the event has a special meaning for the students in the JROTC program. Everyone, both involved in JROTC and those simply recognizing their efforts, were able to observe the ceremony and understand the importance of this holiday.
In the JROTC class, Veterans Day is associated with its own traditions. . The instructors usually give a short speech about what the day represents. They talk about the importance of honoring the people who served in the military and why their service matters. The speeches are simple, respectful, and meant to help students understand the value of this holiday.
Sometimes, the instructors share their own experiences if they previously served in the military. Hearing a real story from someone they see every day helps the students connect to the idea of service in a more realistic way. It shows that Veterans Day isn’t just a date on the calendar; it’s about real people, including the ones teaching them.
The class takes time to celebrate in many ways, no matter how small or otherwise significant. They usually conduct a discussion, watch a short video, or talk about different branches of the military. The atmosphere is calm but respectful. These l activities show JROTC’s efforts to teach students about leadership, responsibility, and respect through everyday lessons. The students are taught to understand the meaning behind the day on an even deeper, more personal level. They are learning about discipline, teamwork, and service all year long. Veterans Day connects with the lessons they already practice. When they talk about the day or share what they learned in class, they gain a special sense of purpose.
For students outside the program, seeing how JROTC honors Veterans Day gives us a different kind of understanding. Since the school doesn’t host a large event, most of us only hear about Veterans Day through announcements or history lessons. But the JROTC students get a chance to connect to it more directly. Their class activities show a simple but meaningful way of remembering the day.
