Billie Eilish is one of the most popular music artists in the world. She has over 52 billion streams across all platforms and more than 200 million followers on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. She has been incredibly inspiring to both kids and young adults, encouraging them to chase their dreams early, just as she did.
However, Billie Eilish hasn’t always had the fame she has now. Billie Eilish was born on December 18, 2001, in Los Angeles, California, and began making music when she was just 13 years old. Billie Eilish created her first song called Ocean Eyes, which was released on SoundCloud and blew up almost instantly, growing her fame super early in her career. She was then quick to release her first EP, titled “don’t smile at me,” the highlight of which became Bellyache, song filled with sensuality and cynicism. Following the success of the previous release, her debut album “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO” has graced the world. In it, hits like xanny, when the party’s over, and, the most adorned of them all, bury a friend, instantly became fan favorites. Although this album came quite early in her career, it has arguably brought her the most success, putting her next to “the next big thing” titles all over the news. Two years later, Eilish’s sophomore album was released. In it, the young artist shows a version of herself that the world had not seen before. In songs like Male Fantasy, NDA, and Billie Bossa Nova, she explored themes of maturity, femininity, and intimacy. Although it was met with a lot of backlash, with fans expecting the same “bad guy” image, it is clear that this record was exceptionally close and special for the artist.
In 2024, she released her hit album “Hit Me Hard And Soft”, which will be performed on her 106-show tour around the world.
Some of the Olympia High School’s students were asked about their thoughts on Billie Eilish’s career, and also what they thought about her tour. Sophomore Lily Brassel shared, “I think that Billie Eilish has the best career out of any artist. She started at such a young age and has proceeded to take the world by storm! Her tour seems really fun and a great experience, and I wish I could see her perform live.” Sophomore Nicole Tavares also stated, “I just started listening to Billie Eilish probably a year ago, and ever since I have started, I haven’t stopped listening to her. Her songs are so good, and I love listening to them. I can’t wait to go to her tour because it seems so fun!”
Billie Eilish seems to be impacting a lot of kids at Olympia and encouraging fans to start their dreams early, just like she did. Junior Riley Smith expressed, “ I don’t really listen to a lot of Billie Eilish’s music, but when I do, I feel such a great vibe from her music, and she makes me want to listen to more and more. I really hope my parents let me go to her tour, I think it would be such a great experience.”
Billie Eilish has now become the most popular female artist in this generation, seemingly taking the world by storm. With the new release of her album and tour, I don’t doubt her shows will be sold out everywhere she goes!
