As the school year progresses and first semester grades are getting finalized, students begin to feel mixed emotions regarding their first report cards. While some students are pleased with their results, others may be unsure and worried. Their responses and feelings all vary by the kind of student and person they are, each with different lifestyles and ways of learning impacting every result. In these high school years, students are often found being overloaded with time-consuming extracurriculars like sports and clubs, as their classes also affect when and how much work is to be completed.
A current student at Olympia High School, Junior Alfredo Hurtado said, “A challenge right now is that I’m constantly busy and I have to compromise on what work I can get done.” This highlights an example of one of the biggest setbacks a student can have, not being able to complete all of their work with the little time available. In this stressful time, it’s important to find ways to manage your time without draining yourself of all energy. Let’s see what our Titans would recommend to keep yourself in check.
Taking Action
In response to grade results, students will find out what time management and studying methods work best for them. This may include the action of reaching out to peers, studying in groups, working alone, or staying after school and studying with a teacher. Many opportunities are given to retake tests or quizzes and get extra credit for classes, allowing students to work towards raising their final grades. “I find it best to study alone and use a Quizlet,” Hurtado explained. “I usually study with friends once or twice a week,” junior Alejandra Romo added. This displays the difference between students’ study methods that work best for themselves.
Utilizing the many online and physical resources available helps many to study and retain the information needed, beneficially impacting each person. The best thing one can do as a student is to show your willingness to learn and take action in these situations, indicating the effort put into each grade. At Olympia, constant striving for progress is key. While many will be pushing to find the best solution, others may have already found what works best for them. The importance of each student’s high school grades are impactful towards their future beyond high school. College applications are also a factor to always keep in mind, for anyone that is as far away as a freshman or as close as a senior. Your grades are ultimately what makes up most of what you submit. Overall, all the effort being made in this time is completely worth it in the end as it displays the determination of each student portraying their skills of control, efforts and growth over the years. These grades show all of the progress and improvement over the years and school year, displaying more opportunities towards students’ futures.
At the end of the day, finding balance between school and life is all that matters. If you ever feel stressed about your grades, sometimes taking a deep breath and relaxing is all that you need. No matter what, our Titan community is always there to support those struggling and celebrate the wins every step of the way.
