Every day, teachers make an impact. Whether it’s through teaching or inspiring their students to grow, they help shape futures one lesson at a time. This year’s Mr. and Mrs. Titan— Mr. and Mrs. Parm— are perfect examples of what this award stands for. Mrs. Parm is passionate, not just about what she teaches, but also about who she teaches. “I really like getting to know the world,” Mrs. Parm said. Along with his wife Mr. Parm also loves his job because it allows him to connect with his students. “The ability to share stories in concepts with my students while they grow as writers, readers and thinkers is the most exciting part of my job,” Mr. Parm stated.
Being teachers here at Olympia, they both believe the key to a great environment is to be there for their students. “If you want your students to show up for you, show up for your students,” Mr. Parm said. That idea isn’t just about physically being in class, it’s about respect and trust between teachers and students. It shows that building genuine connections in environments like these contribute to our overall personal growth. For Mrs. Parm, her advice to other teachers would be, “Ask for help.” She encourages teachers to experiment, reminding them that not everything needs to be graded to matter. “Practice doesn’t have to be graded,” she said. “Try out new things and learn,” Mrs. Parm stated. When the day had come to announce the winners of this year’s 2025 Mr. and Mrs. Titan, Mrs. Parm had been anticipating it was them already. “It was really cute, I had a feeling it was us,” Mr. Parm stated, “it was nice for students to think of me that way.”
When asked how they show school spirit in their daily work, Mrs. Parm laughed and said Mr. Parm avoids participating in any school spirit. Mrs. Parm, on the other hand, shared that she tries to build community in everything she does. Their favorite school tradition, they both smiled and said— Titan tromp. “It’s really fun,” Mrs. Parm said, adding that she’s happy it’s “being brought back.” This event, which brings together students and staff in celebration, captures the kind of community spirit that both of them value so much.
Together, Mr. and Mrs. Parm represent what it means to teach with heart, to care deeply, to connect authentically, and to always show up and show out for their students.
