The month of October is filled with screams, fun, and a chance to be creative.
Halloween, a seasonal celebration that goes back nearly 2000 years, is also celebrated during this month. The holiday changed quite a bit since then, but sharing it with family and friends has not. During October, the amusement of getting spooked, the halloween decorations, and the bond you get to share with family and friends while you celebrate, all contribute to the merriment of this haunting holiday.
Halloween has many popular traditions for families and friends to come together and celebrate. “I love pumpkin carving. I think it’s so fun to do and it’s so cute when you get to be creative and make cool designs,” senior Marleika Morales-Robles stated. Not only is Halloween an exciting tradition and holiday filled with enjoyment, we also get to celebrate more special events. “I look forward to getting to celebrate my birthday with all my friends as we dress up and go out enjoying the night with both the holiday and my birthday,” senior Florianna Sterlacci exclaimed.
As we dive into Halloween, let’s discuss the most known activity people participate in during this holiday— dressing up! “One of my favorite parts of Halloween is to watch my nephew go around to each house and collect candy in his baseball player costume,” senior Dylan Wehr expressed. Holidays are known to bring family and friends closer together, going trick-or-treating with your siblings or celebrating with friends all dressed up contributes to the true fun and enjoyment of this holiday. “This year my friends and I plan to all dress up as Disney princesses, I am excited to take pictures and continue to make more memories for our last year in school together,” Sterlacci stated. Although holidays are more known as family bonding, we also get to celebrate with our friends and create more memories. Dressing up, getting ready, and going out all play a part in the true fun of the season.
Another major component during this holiday season is decorating and creating the mood within your house, room, or even your car. Stores are filled with a variety of decorations and houses exceed the expectations so during this holiday kids get to feel the scare and collect candy. “I always decorate my house and room for Halloween, I love looking around while I get to watch my favorite Halloween movies,” Morales-Robles claimed. Decoration creates an immersive atmosphere and opens us to high spirits and sometimes even fear, in a good way, of course.
Olympia has contributed to Halloween as well by sharing volunteer opportunities for us to go provide candy and fun for elementary students. In addition to that, our band has learned new “spooky” songs to add to the frightening and amusing mood, and we have decorated our school for the month! Grab your friends and family and continue to share memories and enjoy the beginning of our holiday season!
