Every October 5th is celebrated as World Teachers’ Day, an annual global event established by UNESCO in 1994 to honor teachers, give them their well-deserved praise, and acknowledge their role in education and society. Here at Olympia, teachers are proud to have wonderful students to teach , and get excited to come to school everyday.
Our school is full of amazing teachers who are kind, generous, and are great at doing their job. Here is what Ms.Kara DiGiorgio, our Chemistry teacher, had to say “I love teaching at Olympia, the students, the atmosphere, and it’s fun. It helps me get through the day’’.
Knowing that your students are doing well is amazing. Our Titans are well-rounded academically all thanks to our wonderful team of professionals that guide them through any challenges and celebrate every win. “Reflecting on them, it’s not just grades— it’s how they act in my class and they understand really well. They are paying attention and interested in what we are doing,” Ms. Kelly O’Mara, our English teacher remarked.
Appreciating Teachers is really important if you think about it. Teaching takes long hours often with low pay and extensive workload, which includes lesson planning, and grading. The job is also demanding because teachers must cater to student needs, manage classroom behavior, and take care of those who may be going through things outside of the classroom. ‘’The students appreciate me a lot. Once I see them learning, have a good relationship with them, and they are excited to come to class, it makes me feel appreciated,” Chef Mike Lit admitted.
Becoming a teacher is a big responsibility because almost anything can happen in the classroom. ‘’I got into teaching because I wanted to be a coach. I coached for several years, then I decided to turn my focus to DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) and do the competition. Now I love teaching,” Mr. Benedict, our Marketing Essentials teacher, claimed.
This day serves to emphasize the importance of teamwork, peer support, and a shared commitment to improving teaching and learning outcomes. Here is how Mr. Jeremy Bourst spent World Teachers’ day— ’’I watched football and enjoyed time with my family.”
We observe World Teachers’ Day to honor our teachers, celebrate their dedication, and give them their well-deserved respect. Here at Olympia, we love our teachers.
