In a testament to the spirit of community service and female empowerment, the National Charity League (NCL) Citrus Blossom Chapter is proudly marking its second year of existence. Established in 1925 in Los Angeles, California, National Charity League has a rich history of developing socially responsible community leaders and has been committed to strengthening the mother-daughter bond for nearly a century. The Citrus Blossom Chapter, the 293rd chapter nationwide and the second in Florida, continues this tradition, bringing together mothers and daughters from Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, and Seminole counties.
Leadership in Action
The Citrus Blossom Chapter operates under a unique framework in which daughters, spanning from 7th to 12th grade, are affectionately referred to as Ticktockers, and their mothers assume the role of Patronesses. This structure not only emphasizes the multi-generational aspect of the organization but also reinforces its commitment to nurturing leadership skills in young girls.
Olympia senior Aliza Briton who currently serves as the 24-25 Ticktocker President shared how NCL has helped her hone her leadership skills.
“I’ve been able to play a crucial role in the chapter’s direction. I help plan meetings, organize agendas, and speak with members of the Ticktocker board to provide the best experience for the girls,” Briton stated.
Community Endeavors
The Citrus Blossom Chapter’s reach extends beyond county lines, creating a diverse tapestry of participants from various regions of Florida. Therefore, they are able to work with a wide range of philanthropic organizations.
Sharing her introduction to the NCL, freshman Sophie Arndt highlighted the chapter’s involvement in charities.
“The National Charity League typically works with highly credible organizations like Give Kids the World and the American Heart Association. My personal favorite is the Alzheimer’s Association because the outdoor activities are enjoyable,” Ardnt shared.
Empowering Growth
Through their programs, the NCL Citrus Blossom Chapter empowers women to succeed as confident, well-rounded contributors to society. By instilling values of leadership and cultural awareness, the organization equips its members with the tools to make a positive impact in both their personal lives and the communities they serve.
“Young girls obtain lots of leadership skills as they take on different roles and jobs. They also learn etiquette and ways to help the community through philanthropy,” sophomore Claire O’Malley, a founding member of the NCL, noted.
