At Olympia High School, the excitement of homecoming starts with the beloved tradition of Spirit Week. Students show off their school pride through themed dress-up days and activities. Each days theme adding to the growing anticipation of the homecoming dance and a week to bring the student body closer together. This year’s Spirit Week was no exception, as we saw many creative costumes and vibrant colors.
Monday: Rhyme Without Reason
The homecoming week kicked off with a bang as students dressed up to Mondays theme “Rhyme Without Reason”. Many fun and creative outfits were seen throughout the school day such as “Fanta and Santa”, “Bruno Mars and Cars”, and “Napper and Rapper”. After school, SGA hosted the first-ever “Titan Tromp”, a school-wide competition similar to that of the Senior Olympics, with all grades facing off. After the last round, the juniors came out victorious, claiming a first place win.
Tuesday: Splash Your Class
On Tuesday, students embraced the “Splash Your Class” theme, each grade level wearing a different color: Freshmen wore orange, sophomores wore green, juniors wore blue, and seniors wore pink. The campus was awash in color, as students proudly represented their class. Later that evening, the annual “Powder Puff Game” took place where the spirited girls on grade level flag football teams faced off while boys cheered on the sidelines. After multiple intense games, the seniors defeated the juniors in the final round, which secured a win for the senior class.
Wednesday: Surf vs. Turf
As the excitement built, Wednesdays theme, “Surf vs. Turf,” brought out both beach-inspired and country themed outfits. This was also the day of the annual homecoming parade in which students celebrated waving in decorated vehicles and walking with banners through downtown Windermere.
Thursday: Titan Thursday
On the Eve of Homecoming, Titans showed off their spirit by wearing the school colors black and teal. Skye, a member of SGA, wore her Titan jersey to show pride for both her class and school. This day was also great for our football team, with a victory in the homecoming game winning 48-21 against East Ridge. To rally the school together, SGA organized an exciting and prideful glow in the dark pep rally with great performances from the cheerleaders and dance team.
Friday: Dream Big, Dance Big (PJs)
Spirit week was finished with pajama day, bringing a sense of relaxation as students were ready to head home and get ready for the homecoming dance afterschool. The HOCO dance was themed to Bohemian Nights, opening doors for creativity with colorful outfits and an evening of fun at the House of Blues.
Here at the Oracle, we hope you enjoyed the excitement of a homecoming spirit week and had fun at the dance! Until next year, happy HOCO!
