Fashion over the years has changed so much, especially amongst young people, with many trends that have come and gone. How you dress is usually a result of your environment, and who is in it.
When it comes to students at Olympia, there are various groups of people, and therefore numerous styles amongst them. It is hard to pinpoint the real reason behind everyone’s fashion choices. Junior student Jessica Senatus explained her fashion choice as day and attitude dependent, and what she wears is, “a form of expressing myself and my culture”. While freshman Layci Wright said that she, “pays more attention to trends”, in reference to platforms on social media with endless examples and inspiration.
This topic and its depth extends to teachers on campus, as their views may be more similar to students than you’d assume. Mr. Wells said in relation to how he feels about fashion, “I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m into fashion, but I will say I do like to express myself with my outfits”. Clearly expression almost always comes into play whether it’s cultural, personal, or a reflection of what you see surrounding yourself. Even if you wouldn’t say you’re particularly interested in fashion, everyone can appreciate the effort put into it. As Ms. Patel stated, “I do appreciate a good outfit, it honestly kind of depends on the vibe”.
The variety in opinions and choices are a big part of what makes Olympia’s community so welcoming, as it encourages expression and creativity amongst everyone.
Of course, there will always be a trend that people dislike or a certain style that is more popular than others, but with that in mind, your own expression and personal choice is the true beauty of what fashion is all about.
