Dribble and Shoot

Boys Basketball opens up with new players along with new coaches. Eager to win, our Titans boys have put forth so much effort to start this season with a good win. They have worked very hard, especially during pre-season, working against difficult teams to practice their skills, moves, and game plans.

“As a player who has come back again for another year, I have been able to work on my potential with our new coach and the new players,” junior Harry stated.

A lot of difficulty can come with the beginning of a new season. This is especially true with a new coach and a lot of new players. Coach Shipp, along with JV Coach Elliott have transferred from Windermere high school to Olympia. We also had several players transfer from other schools including, sophomores: Jonathan Watts, James Nowell, Bishop Wenze, and Kevin Edou. Seniors Cam Perry, Nicholas Blake, Carson Punt, and many other new players.

“This is a new team with a lot of young players, so, of course, it is sometimes hard to get their heads in the game. But, the boys work hard and review the film and continuously practice getting better every day,” Coach Shipp states.

As well as the players, there are team managers who put in the hard work so that our basketball games can continue to stay organized. Their activities allow the players to get information that will help them grow as players. We have 5 team managers who all have their assigned tasks during game days and even practices. While they do have their assigned tasks, they all help each other out when needed.

“As a team manager, I do the Varsity books for the games. This allows the players and coaches to go back and see what happened during the games. The book counts the fouls, timeouts, starting players, and also the information from the other team during the games,” junior Amani White claimed

“As a team manager, I do the scoreboard. This is a really important job because it includes the times, points, and fouls during the game. I always have to make sure to do my best so that the game can go smoothly,” junior Arabella Meeks said.

This season started with some good competitive games, but there were also some difficult games and disappointing losses. However, as the season continues on, the boys continue to stride through adversity and get better every day. With all of the challenges this new team has faced, the boys continue to dribble and shoot their way through the season. Our Titan basketball team and these challenges will soon dribble and shoot over, and our Titan boys basketball team will continue to challenge themselves.
