With the new school year underway, many students need something to support and uplift them, especially when classes get too challenging and homework too overwhelming. One solution for that is music. Whether you are feeling enthusiastic about the day or sleepy and want to go home, music is a great way to help you get through your day.
Playboi Carti is an artist who motivates many people to get through their days, regardless of the emotions they are feeling. Playboi Carti is known for his iconic rage performances including his energetic sets where he brought out popular Canadian artist The Weeknd during his Rolling Loud 2025 performance.
“My favorite artist is Playboi Carti because of how influential he has been to me, and just how his music can be for everyone. My favorite album of his is Whole Lotta Red because of how it changed music forever. However, in general, Carti’s music is accessible to everyone because he incorporates a wide range of styles, such as when he uses melody or his rage-style rapping,” said sophomore Bryan Desormeaux.
“An artist that really helps me get through the school day is Playboi Carti because he’s so influential. His music is so good that you can have a new favorite song every week,” responded sophomore Marcus Gheorge.
Drake is another Canadian rapper whose music encompasses a range of themes and messages that can help anyone navigate various emotions. He is so talented that he can come up with songs on the go, whether rapping or singing.
“He’s always there when I’m happy and in the mood, and when I’m down in life, it’s like he’s always right next to me, giving me motivation and passion. My favorite song by Drake is probably Virginia Beach because of how his flow cruises right through the beat,” stated sophomore Jensen Martin.
“Drake, because of how good his music is and how it has so many moods depending on the song to help you get through anything,” explained freshman Ohm Patel.
Ken Carson is also an influential rapper known for his insane energy, beat switches in songs like SS and Fighting My Demons, and iconic performances like at Rolling Loud festival in Miami last December.
“He’s such a good rapper and truly raps his mind about many different things,” said sophomore Ivan Chavez.
Other influential rappers that help people get through their day are NBA YoungBoy and Travis Scott. Youngboy is a Memphis born rapper whose music flow attracts many people to listen and enjoy his music. Travis Scott is known for his iconic songs like Sicko Mode and party anthem FE!N. With these songs he is able to have concerts so iconic that they cause earthquakes like the one in Milan, or even bring out rappers like Kanye West like he did in late January 2024.
“Travis Scott for sure because of how good a person he is, and that inspires me to be like him and follow my dreams,” answered sophomore Franco Nakleh.
“NBA Youngboy because he’s so inspirational and his music is beautiful,” said sophomore Davon Renard.
Another hugely popular musician who seems to help people get through their day is Bad Bunny. He is a Puerto Rican musician who collaborates with popular artists such as Rauw Alejandro, Drake, and Travis Scott with his iconic reggaeton beats and flow that everyone loves.
“Bad Bunny because his music is so diverse and helps you get through anything,” explained junior Demian Rodriguez.
“Bad Bunny because of how good his flow and rhythm are on his songs, and he has music for all emotions, whether you are feeling happy or sad,” answered junior Alex Rodriguez.
Artists like Frank Ocean, Laufey, and SZA also help people at Olympia get through their day, regardless of their mood. Frank Ocean is an RnB artist who released songs early in the 2010s but has been on hiatus since 2018. Laufey is an Icelandic singer known for her soft voice and elegant instrumentals. SZA is another popular RnB singer who released two critically acclaimed albums with 2017’s Ctrl and 2022’s SOS. She established a reputation for herself in the music world and went on to collaborate with artists like Travis Scott, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar. She and Kendrick became such an iconic duo that they performed together for the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX
“Probably Frank Ocean because he reminds me of how important my siblings are. My favorite songs from him are ‘Bad Religion’ and ‘Pink Matter, ‘” said sophomore Elaina Saa
“Laufey, because he helps me get through my tough times with her soft, enjoyable music.” -Explained sophomore Arianna Lopez.
“SZA because she’s so melodic and her music touches every subject and can get you out of any mood.” Responded junior Aiza Goyal.
Titans, no matter what mood you are in, there is always something for you in music. No matter what emotions you are going through, music can help you get through your day. If you are ever down, try to listen to who you think helps you get through your day.
