This past weekend, the Olympia Girls’ Soccer Team hosted their first annual Titan Trot! Olympia’s students, staff, and community members laced up their shoes for the 5K. It was a huge success for our Titans and an event that brought everybody together to promote fitness and show school spirit.
Runners of all ages came to Bill Frederick Park on January 11th, early in the morning, prepared to take on the trail. The outdoor run went through the park and by Turkey Lake. It was an energetic and fun atmosphere for all participating.
“My experience at the Titan Trot was unforgettable. It was so fun seeing my entire team enjoying themselves while raising money at the same time. I have never run a 5K before, but after that day, I can see more races in my future. I enjoyed the award ceremony after the race as well. My favorite part of the entire fundraiser was the end of the race when my friend and I crossed the finish line, listening to the cheering of other racers, parents, and volunteers,” junior Olivia Forde.
The runners were pushed through the race by those who chose to volunteer and were stationed along the path to cheer our Titan Family on. Attendees had many reasons to participate whether to enjoy time with friends or family, try to meet a personal record for themselves, or simply be a part of something. All left the event feeling a sense of satisfaction. And although this was a fun event for everybody, it wasn’t just about the race but the community. The Olympia girl’s soccer team hosted this event to fundraise for more athletic equipment for the team.
With a hint of competition coupled with strong community engagement, the Titan Trot will continue to become a memory of the year. While actively running this event, runners passed the finish line and celebrated with one another, especially those who placed in the top 10. The Titan Trot 5k highlighted grit, healthy living, and our school spirit!
