Cookies, pumpkin chocolate muffins, and gingerbread cinnamon rolls are some of the desserts that come to mind now that the fall season is here. At Olympia High School, our culinary classes make a variety of delicious foods from scratch. This year in Chef Mike’s culinary class, students are looking forward to celebrating the autumn season with mouthwatering treats.
Junior Zania Mari says she’s excited and ready to bake “pumpkin chocolate chip muffins,” while senior Saeid Bzeih says he’s looking forward to making “Christmas cookies and gingerbread houses.”
Students have already made fresh mac and cheese, cookies and muffins. At Olympia High School our culinary class has helped many students expand their horizons in many different ways. This class has helped students enhance their cooking skills and knowledge, as well as helped them improve their self-confidence.
Mari says that so far in culinary arts she learned “to not to always follow the recipe that’s given. Add your razzle dazzle to make it your own.” Saeid says that so far in culinary arts he learned “how to cut properly, cook from scratch and fix errors.”
This year, culinary class has helped students with food safety, nutrition, culinary math, and the history and culture of dishes. The Titans have learned the diversities of different foods and tried new things. Chef Mike also said this fall his students will be taught “how to cut up chicken, different cooking techniques, and how to make sauces.” These skills will prepare students for future competitions.
