The roar of the bowling ball going down the lane and clashing into the pins is what brings excitement to these Titan bowlers. Bowling brings out a lot of fun times and memories from the moment you step onto the alley until the end of the tournament. Although bowling may seem like an individual sport, it actually requires a lot of skill and team effort to succeed in tournaments.
“As a team, we are expected to lift each other up because all the players’ scores get added up. If someone bowls a couple of bad frames, they need to stay positive and level-headed because their scores are important for the team score,” junior bowling captain Grayson Harper said.
Our Titans took the road against their first competitor, University High School, earlier this year with Olympia coming out on top, led by Harper, who bowled a remarkable 200 through 10 frames. “We have not [had] a beginning season win in years. Coming into our first game and beating a team like University, it shows that we are here to win. It’s proven to the team that anything is possible,” Harper said.
Harper was followed by senior Jacob Whiddon who bowled a solid 164 for a blowout win against University. “I feel like we have changed our mindsets in the lanes and carry ourselves a lot better,” Whiddon said.
The girls bowling team also took a win earlier this year for their first match against Horizon High School. “This year holds a lot of potential as we’ve seen a lot of growth from new players and the team always carries high energy.” senior Madeline Rumble said.
“I am excited for this year because we are already seeing a lot of growth with new players and it is always high energy and lots of fun. I hope the team continues, but this year all of the girls are seniors, so we need more people to join to keep it going,” senior Gianna Grossman said. The girls bowling team seems to be moving in the right direction.
Most athletes on the bowling team play other sports, but bowling piqued their interest as something new to try. “Although I play lacrosse, I wanted to try something different. A couple of my friends played on the bowling team, so I decided to join and ended up loving it. [Bowling] has brought me a lot of fun memories and I recommend it to anyone wanting to try,” senior Maci Mitchell said.
