Homecoming Night Was A Great Way To Kick Off The School Year
Saturday, September 20th, was a night Olympia will remember for a long time. Homecoming took place at the House of Blues, and from the moment the doors opened, you could feel the excitement with teal lights, fancy suits, and stunning dresses. Students showed up dressed to the nines and ready to celebrate.
“This is a great way to start the year,” remarked sophomore Kalani Postell after walking through the doors. The music set the mood right away, and the crowd quickly filled the dance floor.
The DJ kept everyone moving with a mix of songs. The setlist was diverse, and full of suggestions from the crowd. Everywhere you turned, you could see laughter, big smiles, and people taking photos and videos to capture the memories. “Being in the crowd was a blast, it felt like a night to remember, ” said junior Janaya Walker, describing her experience of being right in the middle of it all.
School spirit was also at an all time high, evident by everyone doing our famous OT chant. “Our school really showed up and stood out,” sophomore Synai Bennet declared excitedly. The energy in the room was full of joy and excitement, students got in the groups, cheering each other on as everyone showed their best dance moves. The goal of the night was to bring everyone together like one big family, and there is no doubt this goal was achieved. The food wasn’t anything fancy, but it was delicious, giving everyone energy to keep dancing through the night. There was also a variety of soda and water to refresh everyone so there was no excuse to stop having fun and giving the dancefloor your all. Among the chaos of music pumping and teenagers rushing to dance to their favorite songs, you could see new friendships developing, which may last beyond high school.
The students’ favorite part of the dance, however, was getting to feel like a grown-up for just one night, while still keeping everything completely appropriate and teen friendly. It gave students a taste of the adult world by getting dressed up, dancing, and socializing without losing the fun or the sense of school spirit.
The results of the dance are clear— not one bad moment could be found. From excellent music to appetizing food and all the new connections it brought, Homecoming 2025 will be one of the best events of the school year. It was a celebration of friendship, school spirit, and our community and we are excited to see what else Olympia has in store for this upcoming year.
