With the 2024 season at an end, this means it’s time to see which team will call themselves the best. For college football, it is the National Championship. For the 2025 National Championship, the two teams that will be battling it out in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia will be No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes against No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Buckeye Strong
The season started out strong for Ohio State winning their first 5 games, before facing Oregon on the road losing 31-32. Ohio State was able to have a record of 13-2 coming into the National Championship. This record was upheld through their star players such as their safety Caleb Downs, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, and their running back TreVeyon Henderson. Ohio State’s head coach Ryan Patrick Day is ending his 5th season and I’m sure he is happy to be ending the season at the National Championship. Ohio State will be walking onto the field strong with a prediction of winning over Notre Dame by +8.5. Heading into the game cornerback Denzel Burke is cleared to play after not playing in the second half of the Cotton Bowl. With Ohio State going to Atlanta with a predicted win, they will be hoping to bring home their 9th National Championship title.
The Incomparable Fighting Irish
Not to underestimate the No. 5 seed, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be coming to Atlanta in hopes of winning their first National Championship since 1988, when they beat West Virginia 34-21. The season started out by winning their first game, but then they suffered an upset against the Northern Illinois Huskies losing 16-14 in Huskie Stadium. They picked the season back up remaining undefeated for the rest of the season giving them an overall record of 14-1 coming to Atlanta. Their coach Marcus Freeman is in his third season coaching. He is hoping to beat the Ohio State Buckeyes and bring the trophy home to the university. Coming into the game, star players to watch for on their roster are quarterback Kenny Minchey, defensive lineman Jordan Botelho, and wide receiver Kris Mitchell. Even though Notre Dame will be walking onto the field predicted to lose they will still be prepared with strong plays and players.
My Football Opinion
As a Tennessee and Clemson fan, seeing who made the National Championship this season disappoints me. I understand both teams [Clemson and Tennessee] made it to the playoffs and lost both in the first round. However, I think Tennessee would’ve won if they were playing in their hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee. Enough of my Tennessee rant, during the [National Championship] game I will be rooting for Notre Dame. Personally I am not an Ohio State fan so I will be hoping that Notre Dame creates an upset or a close game not allowing the Buckeyes to walk away with an easy win. So for me, Go Irish!
Here at the Oracle, we hope you enjoy this championship season time and tune into the College Football National Championship on ESPN Monday, January 20th at 7:30. Go Buckeyes and Go Fighting Irish!
