Filled with anticipation on the early morning drive to Gainesville, the Titan track team embarked on a trip to the Florida Relays on March 29th-March 30th. In front of hundreds of athletes and coaches, you are essentially proving that you are the best whether it is sprints, distance races, relays or even field events.
The Florida Relays is a two-day event that attracts the top athletes from all around the country. This multi-day activity promises to deliver many record-breaking performances, action-packed competition, and a peek into the future of track and field. Throughout the day, the top athletes from hundreds of different schools descend upon the University of Florida’s territory in Gainesville. The stage is set for them to experience something unforgettable!
This event has been around since 1939, allowing many athletes to showcase their talent and put it on the line for all to witness, including many college coaches and recruiters. With the pressure to perform well, these athletes must have a set routine to help them excel above the competition.
“I was nervous coming in, but I knew what I came there to do, which is to PR. I knew that the 100m hurdles and the long jump were [at] the same time, so I had to stay composed coming from one event to another. Overall, I performed well. I became Florida Relay Pepsi Champ in the long jump. Even though I didn’t PR, I did get a lot of recognition from college coaches,” senior team leader Omaria Gordon said.
Overall, the Florida Relays was very successful for the Titans with amazing results.
Congrats to these standout Titans for their impressive performances:
