Sliding into Softball

With spring sports now in full motion, we are coming up on the home openers, including softball. For the girls, the beginning of a new season means new traditions, new hopes, and new players.

“My hopes for this season are to get better at softball and build more friendships with new teammates, as well as [make] new memories to look back [on] in the future,” sophomore Juleyka Aguayo said.

“My hope for this season is to enjoy spending time with the team, as well as improving at the same time!” JV team captain Joselyn Cortez-Franco said.

These girls have formed a strong bond with one another, which helps them excel on the field.

“We are all super supportive of each other regarding the games and practices. Everyone understands the pressure of playing so it makes the team close.’’ Richelle Ruiz said.

These girls are students above all else, which means they juggle the responsibility of staying on top of school work while also focusing on their sport.

“It’s hard being a student-athlete when you play for the school and outside of school too, but what I’ve always managed to do is during school hours I try to get all my work done and homework so I don’t have to worry about my work after practice. If not, I tend to finish my work over the weekend,’’ sophomore Elizabeth Aguilar said.

I juggle it all by prioritizing being a student, that always comes first. I always try to cut out time after practice and games to complete my schoolwork. Whenever I’m not on the field, I will try to get my schoolwork done,” Aguayo said.

We are so excited to see these girls go through their season. Win or lose, Olympia is proud of our softball team!
